This design incorporates elements that represent Beren and Lúthien, whose story is considered one of the greatest tales of the first age.
Beren and Lúthien stole a Silmaril from the crown of Morgoth, but Beren lost his hand (and temporarily the Silmaril as well) in the process; Beren is represented with the torn hand and a closed fist with the Silmaril’s light radiating out.
Lúthien is represented as a nightingale because of the name Tinúviel, which means nightingale; a star and three dots are pulled from one of Tolkien’s heraldic devices for Lúthien (she is associated with twilight).
